Excellent fitting glaze.beautiful on the 3 bodies that I use though less black on LF18
H&R say that leaching is less than 0.02-0.07 and is about as good as it gets,I agree.

UN-Floating Blue my efforts,it snot as easy as you think

I am also keen to develop a floating blue which will work for me..
I did put in a couple of tests..but resulted in snot green and an almost floating blue

Firing parameters and clay Cone 6-7 tests Electric kiln

Happy New year all,
Have spent the last couple of months preparing and formulating Cone six glazes using materials available in New Zealand. I am very interested to discover some clear glossy food safe, base glazes to experiment with hopefully they will also give me some base lines to develop my own unique glazes which I will post on here, most of the glazes were from Hesselberth and Roy,Mastering Cone Six Glazes and also from Micheal Bailey’s,Cone Six glazes. One was from Janet De Boos and one I developed from scratch after analyzing the alumina and silica levels.
I was using Lawrence Ewings computer glaze program called Matrix to reformulate and replace materials, which I am comfortable with.I find it an easy program to use.
Clay bodies used:
MFW(midfire white, smooth white firing throwing clay for Domestic ware,200 mesh Fires C 2-6,shrinkage about 15%
LF18.course off white body good for throwing and hand building,,50 mesh, shrinkage about 17% Fires C7-8
N21, iron rich stoneware, 50 mesh, shrinkage 16% Fires C7-8

My Firing schedule to 1201 *C Cone 6,was also slow cooled at a ramp of 80 oC to 800oC..I do believe it is important to slow cool and have seen a huge improvement from doing so.
Bisque was to cone 08 (955),Soak one hour.I may increase the bisque to 1000 to reduce further any problems.

Little Goddess fertility

my first piece of sculpture since returning home..not fired yet but hopefully she will enjoy a niche in someones garden

Hi Folks back to business

I have been very busy in the last 6 months with a visit back home to the UK to visit family and also I took a few papers in photography and photoshop this year so consequently ceramics was on the back burner,I am now back home full of enthusiasm for Ceramics again and have decided to lower my firing temp from Cone 10 down to Cone 6..the reason for that is I just feel like a change and I like the challange to convert some C10 glazes to C6..so its out with the old and in with the new.whoohoo

My first port of call will be some high Calcium matt glazes that have been a favourite..one was Janet de Boos 101 red yellow and 105 Blue green so it will be interesting to see how they convert
I will be also experimenting with some of Hesselbeth and Roy Cone six glazes and Baileys C 6 too
